The agreement between the Port Network Authority and the University of Pisa on the implementation of teaching and research activities at the “Logistics systems” university complex service centre in Livorno has been renewed for four years.

The agreement was originally signed on 31 August 2016 by, in addition to the (suppressed) Livorno Port Authority, Livorno Municipality and the Livorno Foundation.

The renewal of the Convention is part of the Port Network Authority’s training strategy, also in light of the ForMare project, involving a partnership between the North Tyrrhenian Port Network Authority, Tuscany Regional Administration, the Chamber of Commerce and Tuscany Maritime Directorate. The project aims to improve the capacity of the training system to respond to the maritime economy’s needs for professional expertise and skills.

“The initiative takes on even greater significance today given, on the one hand, the problems posed by the Covid-19 epidemiological emergency and, on the other, the need to relaunch our ports and their respective geographical areas,” said the President of the Port Network Authority, Stefano Corsini.

“In this scenario, training takes on an even more strategic role than in the past, also in the context of professional expertise and skills which the post-Covid-19 recovery has to be based on,” concluded Mr. Corsini.

Livorno: favourable opinion on the concession for SDT

During the meeting, the Management Committee voted in favour of entrusting Sintermar Darsena Toscana (SDT) with the concession of the areas at the root of the west bank of the Darsena Toscana and of the berths 14 E, F and G, for maritime state property purposes only, until August 2022. Up to now SDT had been operating there under an advance management regime.

SDT’s Business Plan provides for increasingly significant traffic throughput, investments in resources and equipment over the two-year period 2020-2022. From the employment point of view, the company has hired about 25 people and plans to hire another 4 operational employees in the 2020-2021 two-year period.
