Darsena Europa: the infrastructure will be ready by 2024.This is what the President of the North Tyrrhenian Port Network Authority, Stefano Corsini, said at the City/Port steering committee meeting yesterday, announcing that he had sent a technical procedural data sheet on Livorno port’s seaward expansion project to the Ministry for Infrastructure .
Mr Corsini also stated that the simulations conducted at the Cetena maritime research centre in Genoa to verify the maneuverability of the large ships in the Darsena Europa dock had been successful.
Neopanamax and Megamax class vessels were used in the simulation. Both were tested at the two berths for container ships in Darsena Europa.
During the simulation tests carried out by the Port Network Authority together with the Harbour Master’s Office and the Harbour Pilots’ Corporation , the necessity arose to make improvements to the initial project through a functional, technical adjustment procedure that will allow vessels to enter the area more easily, as well as to facilitate their maneuvers.
Mr Corsini also spoke about the Microtunnel, declaring that work on the Magnale shaft should restart in July. In fact, an agreement is in progress with the company for the resumption of the excavation work.
To date, the proceedings have been forwarded to the Attorney General for an expert opinion and work will shortly begin. The Port Network Authority announced that contact has already been made with Eni and is ready to restart. By August 2022, the Eni preliminary dredging pipes will be removed.
For the Torre del Marzocco project, the tender call will take place in mid 2021. The canal, in 125-meter sections, will be widened by August 2022.
