Piombino: surveillance of traffic flows to Elba a top priority

For the Easter weekend, the Port Network Authority will be raising its level of surveillance for monitoring port traffic flows to the island.

The rules in force up to now on controls to and from the islands, introduced by the “I stay at home” decree have not changed. However, many people have understandably voiced their concern to the Port Authority about the risk of a considerable increase in the number of passengers going to the island.

Therefore, as always, in synergy with the task force of police officers, military police, revenue officers and local police officers, the Port Security personnel (a company managed by the Port Network Authority) will continue to keep a close watch, within the limits of their competence. They will be monitoring, round-the clock, the only access point for vehicles going into the port and reinforcing the surveillance inside the passenger terminal and in proximity of every access to the port for people on foot, so as to “alert”, if necessary, the forces of law and order, already constantly present near the berths of the ferries concerned.

“The situation is under control at the moment and we have not recorded any warning signals” said the man in charge of the Port Network Authority’s Territorial Office in Piombino, Claudio Capuano. “In any case, we will continue to monitor the situation carefully by stepping up the controls, bearing in mind that during this weekend the only ships that will guarantee links with the islands will be Toremar’s.”
