The North Tyrrhenian Port Network Authority has just issued an ordinance (n.9/2020) which individuates and delimits the port areas to be used exclusively for the Costa Diadema operations, currently moored at the Pecoraro pier in the port of Piombino.
In particular, a ‘Sterile Area’ has been identified, with priority given to the operations planned for the emergency management of the Costa Diadema, and a ‘Service Area’ for providing support and services to the operation, although not exclusively.
In the Sterile Area, circulation is only permitted for personnel and vehicles from the institutions in the Control Room (Port Network Authority, USMAF, Piombino Municipality, Maritime Authority, State Police, Military Police, Revenue corps, Costa Cruises and Freschi Alessandro & C. shipping agency) and technical-nautical services personnel and port services, exclusively for work necessities, and accredited associations authorized by these institutions . The circulation must take place under the supervision of the personnel in charge (Police and Port Security), upon request for access to the Port Network Authority and according to the procedures agreed upon, even verbally, by the Control Room.
Likewise, in the Service Area, the circulation of vehicles and personnel, appropriately and specifically authorized, must take place under the supervision of Port Security and according to the modalities agreed upon, even verbally, by the control room. Technical-nautical services personnel and the crew members of the vessels moored at the piers in this Service Area may transit or operate autonomously within it exclusively for work purposes.
Any additional, different ways of using and/or equipping the areas referred to in points 1 and 2, for other purposes, must always be authorized in advance by the Port Network Authority, after consulting the Control Room.
“This ordinance is the result of a strong synergy between all the members of the Control Room ” said the Head of the Port Network Authority’s territorial office in Piombino, Claudio Capuano, who thanks all the institutions for being “promptly diligent and willing to contribute in every way, according to their specific areas of competence.”
